“MISS YOU”
Riding in my car, to take you to appointments, run errands, or just hang out and listen to you spit knowledge, game, and wisdom in my ear just isn’t the same anymore! I can’t believe that one year has passed since you left us, and a day doesn’t go by without me replaying one of your many life lesson sermons in my head.
I have continued to assist in taking care of mom and expediting all of your requests and wishes exactly how you wanted them to be. And I can’t help but to realize everything you always told me was true. You told me the world was a cruel place, but it was bearable and worthwhile because of all of the love that exists inside of each and everyone of us especially with our family. You told me no one would ever love me as much as my mother and father, and you told me to stay in the moment and be present in my children’s lives, and pass that love to my children’s children as you did with mine. And finally, do everything possible to teach, assist, and support my children in becoming better than I ever could be!
Since you’ve gone, I’ve been laying low, reassessing my life, my friends, my family, and my goals, objectives, and perspective. I’ve reached out to some, embraced others, and moved forward and left some behind! I’ve found myself at an emotional impasse at times, because who does a man truly turn to for unconditional truth, love, support, and guidance when mankind is truly selfish by nature. I’m glad I had so many moments with you to now recognize what is conditional and unconditional, and I continually strive daily to cultivate and build upon that bond with my children, and more than ever I love and cherish those who are willing to love and cherish me and make me a priority in their life as you did!
I feel I’m finally understanding your concept of being consciously present through my existence instead of going through the motions in life “asleep behind the wheel”, and I will continue to be myself, and express myself with no apologies as I know and believe what you said that “Tomorrow promises nothing to nobody, so live for today!” I thank God for him blessing me with a father like you, and I continually MISS YOU!

My dad was an Original Montford Point Camp “Negro Marine”! After joining the United States Marine Corps just months after the Marines became desegregated, and although he was an officer, he still faced the racial injustices that all Black Americans went through in our country. Yet he still endured, survived, and helped pave the way for many to follow behind him. The United States Marine Corp helped pave the way towards desegregation in our country, and diminished prejudice. I Love you Dad, I miss you everyday, and I thank you for being my role model! You truly were one of “The Few, The Proud, A Marine” Thank you for your Service, and for fighting for the freedoms I enjoy daily! Also Thank You to all of our Service Members, Past, Present, and Future!
